Spring has finally sprung (in my HEAD, anyway)! And what better way to while away the last few days of one of the darkest, crappiest winters I’ve ever had to endure than to hole myself up & lose myself in the creation of some animation? Please lemme know what you think of this one minute clip I just finished! This one’s just a technical test, but should I feature these two Park Exers in their own ePiSoDiC wEb-SeRiEs SiTcOm? It didn’t take that long to make. What kinda gags should I put them thru in the future? What would YOU have them texting each other? These are basically the same 2 male/female character templates I’ve been using forever for Motion Picture Purgatory. Should I attempt an MPP series with them? I will not be making anymore copies of these! $200.00 for two original sculptures (very sturdy cement approximately 5 inches high) & a 10 X 12 inch acrylic painting on canvas of the penis organism (the vagina painting has already been sold)! Everything signed & dated by the artist on the bottom or back! Postage not included!

This sculpture series was spawned by a collection of tiny abstract drawings I turned into three dimensional sculptures for a solo show exhibited at Gallerie Monastiraki February, 2009. Each of the structures, five in total, melded ornamental elements with mechanical & biological ones. Multiple copies were struck from actual molds of the originals & put on display along with acrylic paintings of the same organisms. MOTION PICTURE PURGATORY: “Flesh Gordon Meets the Cosmic Cheerleaders” (1989)

Back in the late 80’s I tried in earnest to get my band The American Devices involved in the “Flesh Gordon” (1972) sequel “Flesh Gordon Meets the Cosmic Cheerleaders” (1989) directed by porn pioneer Howard (Mona) Ziehm, because the first one was considered a minor classic for its excellent stop-motion puppet creatures animated by the likes of Ray Harryhausen protégé Jim Danforth. Preproduction sketches piqued my curiosity with monster characters like a giant female dominatrix spider & anthropomorphized turds. Corresponding back & forth via snail-mail with the producers in B.C., I hoped they could at least get some of our music on the soundtrack & sent them a whole promo package, but no dice. Just as well, because the humor in Flesh Gordon 2 turned out to be sophomoric beyond redemption & the cheesy party-time music they ended up going with sounded more like Huey Lewis and The News. I still really have a soft-spot for this thing, though. It’s almost campy enough to recollect early John Waters. The heading for this Motion Picture Purgatory which originally appeared in a 1999 Valentine’s issue of The Montreal Mirror was “The birds & the bees gotcha depressed? Can’t wait to see FIFTY SHADES OF GREY POUPON (POOP ON)! Spread hot mustard on your privates till you poop your pants in pain just like they do in one of the most harrowing scenes in this doc about the notorious S&M website that got shut down because of torture-happy gov’t’s “Patriot Act”! (Poop-free) consensual screams from hot pepper cream applied to genitals actually attracted cops. Did they smell lunch? Heading for this Motion Picture Purgatory which originally appeared in a 2009 issue of The Montreal Mirror was “Blot calling the kettle black!” Artwork ended up as part of the extras in Synapse Films’ 2010 Special Edition DVD release. SNUBDOMIZER: “Makimbah: The God of Piss” (1997)

“Makimbah: The God of Piss” was a stop-motion animation model idea I concocted in the early-eighties combining elements of Ray Harryhausen’s Cyclops from The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad (1958) & Marilyn Chambers’ pulsating phallus protruding from a prolapsed anal armpit cavity equipped with an infectious hypodermic spike from David Cronenberg’s Rabid (1977). Except since I was designing a superhero character, I just flat-out turned mine into urinating penises as a superpower. I never got to build it into a model but I serialized the character somewhat as a comic strip, making its first appearance in Montreal counter-culture magazine Sugar Diet #1 (1984). The pages seen here are from when I revived Makimbah in the mid-nineties for an exhibition. When Eric Braun asked if he could publish it in an issue of 106U in 1997, I removed the text & replaced it with hieroglyphics so it could appeal to a wider global audience. I didn’t miss the text; too much exposition. Cartoonists slaughtered in France. What a wacky world. I got death threats for one of my cartoons once. The editor of The Montreal Mirror apparently played the recorded messages off his speaker phone out loud to the staff until they told him to quit it. I wasn’t at the offices, I was working freelance from home. At least they called first. It was for a (p)review of a Good Friday (the 13th) screening of Karim Hussain & Mitch Davis’ sacrilegious film SUBCONSCIOUS CRUELTY wherein I depicted naked girls urinating onto a disemboweled Jesus Christ while sodomizing him with a branch. It appeared in the April 12 – April 19, 2001 issue of The Montreal Mirror. “A Trillion Hail Marys!” (Pictured below: Scan from original newsprint version.
